The tensions between James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers have been the point of discussion for the majority of this offseason as it might have larger consequences for both parties. It could essentially mean the end of Harden’s professional career and also result in Joel Embiid‘s departure from the Philadelphia 76ers.

A lot of journalists, especially Stephen A. Smith, have taken issue with Harden’s frequent team transfers. Harden has requested trades thrice in the past three years, going from the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets, and to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played for the past season and a half and has now requested another trade.

Stephen A. Smith, in particular, doesn’t really like what Harden is doing to the league right now. During a recent appearance on “Club Shay Shay,” Stephen A. Smith sat down with fellow First Take member Shannon Sharpe to discuss various topics. One of the subjects they addressed was James Harden.

They discussed Harden not being a champion and making these demands despite his multiple trades and lack of championship rings. “It’s not like you’re a champion making these demands,” said Smith. “You have no championships to show for any of your efforts… You got everything you wanted; they gave you everything but a pacifier and a bib,” Stephen A. said.

Stephen A Smith thinks trading James Harden will be ‘beautiful’ for the 76ers

James Harden’s trade request wasn’t fulfilled by the Philadelphia 76ers because they couldn’t find great offers from the Los Angeles Clippers, where Harden wanted to be traded. In response to this, Harden has warned the Sixers that he wouldn’t play for the organization in the upcoming season. It could really hurt Philly’s chances as they would want to compete for the championship. Without Harden, it might be difficult.

Stephen A. Smith thinks that it would be beautiful if Philadelphia transferred ball-handling responsibilities from James Harden to their young guard, Tyrese Maxey. He thinks that it would be the right move for the 76ers. In an episode of First Take, Stephen A. gave his opinion on the topic and said, “I say roll the dice, take your chances. You hand Tyrese Maxey that ball and say ‘you’re that dude.”

Maxey has a very high ceiling, and if given an opportunity, he could develop into a primary ball-handling guard, which they thought Markelle Fultz could become before he was drafted. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds between Harden and the 76ers.
