Former NBA star Kevin Garnett has expressed his belief that the Washington Wizards’ newly acquired guard, Jordan Poole, has the potential to be the “next James Harden.”
During the ongoing offseason, the Golden State Warriors traded Poole because of a rift with Draymond Green, and they acquired Chris Paul in return. In his last season with the Warriors, Poole averaged 20.4 points per game, showcasing his talent. However, Garnett believes that with the Washington Wizards, Poole can reach his full potential.
During the most recent episode of the “KG Certified” podcast, Garnett elaborated on his belief that Poole is on the verge of a breakout season with the Wizards.
“Jordan Poole is the new James Harden. Y’all remember when James Harden left OKC and got to God damn Houston and got right at it? Man, this the Jordan Poole show,” Garnett said.
Garnett also discussed his expectations for the duo of Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma. He acknowledged that they might not be the most flashy pairing, but he believes that, with the addition of Poole, they are poised for a significant performance on the court.
“This dynamic, this little duo [with Kyle Kuzma] is the new duo in the league. Not only do these two have that showmanship in them, but I feel Jordan Poole feels like he’s been held back. That’s how I thought James Harden felt coming out of OKC,” he added.
The Rockets helped unlock James Harden
Around 2010, a peculiar trend started to gain momentum in NBA arenas. Sales of fake beards surged, and an increasing number of fans attending games were seen wearing this popular fashion accessory. The person behind this craze was none other than James Harden, who would later become widely recognized as ‘The Beard.’
Harden’s trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Houston Rockets in 2012 marked a turning point in his career, propelling him to superstardom. With the Rockets, he assumed a central role as the primary scorer and playmaker, leading to an impressive surge in his stats, including consistently averaging over 25 points per game.
During his time with OKC, Harden was part of a formidable trio alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, reaching the NBA Finals but falling short of a championship. In Houston, he formed another superstar duos, first with Chris Paul and later with Russell Westbrook. Although they didn’t secure an NBA title, these partnerships showcased Harden’s leadership and his ability to lead deep playoff runs, further solidifying his status as a superstar in the league.
