“I wanna compete for a championship” James Harden makes honest confession on why he took a $15 million pay-cut
James Harden
James Harden now really wants to win and is very serious about it. As he recently made an applaud worthy sacrifice for that to happen. After years of criticism from fans for being unloyal and hopping around when the franchise needs him the most. James Harden has finally proved to the world that he’s a real one for the Philadelphia 76ers and is a changed man as he wants Philadelphia to be his final home as he has dreams of lifting up the championship there while playing alongside Joel Embiid.
Last season wasn’t that great for the Philadelphia 76ers as their superstar duo of James Harden and Joel Embiid was limited to injuries in the postseason and hence got an early exit in the playoffs. But the future is bright for them and the chances this year are higher and The Beard gets the most credits for it. James Harden declined his $47.4 million player option with the Philadelphia 76ers and became a free agent. But he’s not on the wheels after they gave away their future and young core to acquire him. He’s actually helping them by freeing some cash so they can put up a better roster with correct improvements and necessary adjustments made. As this time he is willingly playing the team game to end up as a winner and is ready to pay the price for it.
There was absolutely no need for him to sacrifice his hard-earned $15 million but he knows he had to and he did what is right for the team. This action of his has him already listed as one of the best team players something many won’t agree with once he takes the court. But the coming season is going to be a game-changer for the Sixers after their last year’s duel. As now they’ll have a healthy James Harden with the best possible roster which means a sure shot at the championship and they are already listed as contenders.
James Harden reveals the reason behind him taking a $15 million pay cut from Sixers
James Harden’s reason to take a $15 million pay cut from the Sixers was to be a winner. As in a recent interview of his with Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, he discussed the whole situation he’s going through and also mentioned the conversation he had with Daryl Morey, Sixers President regarding his contract with the franchise. The Beard quoted: “I had conversations with Daryl, and it was explained how we could get better and what the market value was for certain players. I told Daryl to improve the roster, sign who we needed to sign and give me whatever is left over.”
Further James Harden added: “This is how bad I want to win. I want to compete for a championship. That’s all that matters to me at this stage. I’m willing to take less to put us in position to accomplish that…I think we have a much deeper team. That’s something we wanted to address. If you look at our team now, we’re positioned to go a lot further. I like how we stack up with the rest of the top teams.”
James Harden is correct with his decision and the words he said. As the Sixers have really improved because of him sacrificing around $15 million. As the franchise recently has made some valuable signings of players like P.J. Tucker, Danuel House, De’Anthony Melton, Trevelin Queen and still they can create a few more spots. So if the Sixers get the job done this season no matter how good or bad Harden plays he’ll be the one behind it as he helped the front office to stack the team up.
