James Harden trade news – NBA insider gives HUGE UPDATE on Philadelphia 76ers All-star’s offseason
James Harden declines player option, enters free agency
Philadelphia 76ers point guard James Harden has made the decision to decline his $35.6 million player option and will enter free agency this summer, according to a report from Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes. Harden, who signed a two-year, $68.6 million deal with the Sixers last summer, is now looking for a four-year contract and a team that can provide a competitive roster and the basketball freedom he desires.
“The Houston Rockets have long been a rumored destination,” Haynes wrote. “But sources say Harden will only entertain suitors that present a competitive roster and the basketball freedom for the star to be himself.
“At the moment, the Sixers are the only logical option, coming off a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference in the regular season. But the dynamic in Philadelphia will undoubtedly change next season, considering the Sixers have to find the right coach after dismissing Doc Rivers.”
During his first full regular season with the Sixers, Harden put up impressive numbers, averaging 21.0 points on 60.7 percent true shooting and leading the league with 10.7 assists per game. However, his performance in the playoffs declined to 20.3 points on 53.8 percent true shooting and 8.3 assists per game.
In the decisive Game 7 blowout loss to the Boston Celtics, Harden struggled, scoring only nine points on 3-of-11 shooting, along with seven assists and five turnovers.

Uncertain future for James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers’ third-place finish in the Eastern Conference regular season was a positive development, but the disappointing playoff performance raised concerns about the team’s ability to face championship. The loss to the Celtics in Game 7 highlighted the need for improvement, and finding the right coach to guide the team becomes crucial for the Sixers’ future success.
The departure of Doc Rivers as head coach leaves a void that the organization must fill with someone capable of maximizing the talents of their players, including Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey. The next coaching hire will play an important role in determining whether the Sixers can provide the environment that James Harden desires.
As for Harden, his decision to seek a four-year contract indicates a desire for stability and a long-term commitment to his future team. While the Houston Rockets have been mentioned as a potential destination, it remains to be seen if they can provide the competitive roster and basketball freedom that Harden seeks.
