“A kid from Akron…had a vision to become a billionaire” Jay Williams believes it in the best interest of NBA if LeBron James becomes an owner
Lebron James
LeBron James, the newly minted billionaire and NBA player, has always expressed an interest in owning a team in the league, and he explains his plans in the latest episode of the talk show “The Shop.” LeBron James is regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time in which the LA Lakers forward has won four NBA titles in his 19-year NBA career, among many other honors. What makes James so unique is that he is as impressive off the court as the 18-time All-Star recently became a billionaire, putting him in an elite group of athletes.
Lebron would want to see an NBA team in Las Vegas in particular and will almost certainly become a team owner and according to many NBA experts, he would make an exceptional franchise owner. Although NBA commissioner Adam Silver confirmed this week that there are no imminent plans to expand from 30 clubs, Las Vegas and Seattle have been suggested as potential expansion destinations.
Would Lebron James succeed in owning a franchise?
Lebron James has won four NBA championships and been awarded league MVP four times throughout his illustrious 19-year career. He’ll return to the floor next season, hoping to recover from a disastrous season with the Los Angeles Lakers, in which the team finished 33-49 and missed the playoffs. Along with his playing career, the 37-year-old has been a part-owner of Liverpool FC since 2011 and the Boston Red Sox since 2021, gaining experience in team ownership.
Many NBA analysts feel LeBron James would be an excellent club owner as his business resume is impressive, indicating that he is capable of handling the commercial side of things. James, on the other hand, adores basketball and has spent more than half of his life professionally playing it. He understands what it takes to win it all, as well as how it feels to lose it too.

NBA Analysts Jay Williams and Stephen A. Smith discuss on the potential ownership of a Las Vegas team by LeBron James
The NBA, according to Jay Williams, should do everything possible to ensure that LeBron James owns a team eventually. Williams on First Take stated: “It would be in the best business interest of the NBA to have that representation for your brand globally. A kid from Akron, who not only had the talent, but to become a billionaire while still being an active player, that will then transition into an ownership, a majority ownership in the likes of Michael Jordan.”
Stephen A. Smith believes that having money alone will not be enough to own an NBA franchise, but James will be able to do it. He credited the four-time NBA champion and his business associates with much of his success, stating, “He can achieve anything.”. He also said: “To be quite honest with you, what LeBron has meant to the game of basketball, I’ll go so far to say I think the league would owe it to him, to facilitate him owning a basketball team.”
