“Your ceiling is on the level of Jokić, Embiid. But your floor is JaVale McGee” – Jay Williams RIPS Anthony Davis for worrying inconsistency

Anthony Davis had a terrible game in Game 2 against the Warriors. How can he be more consistent and help the Lakers win?

Anthony Davis is one of the most talented and versatile players in the NBA. He can score from anywhere on the court, defend multiple positions, and dominate the boards. But he is also one of the most inconsistent superstars in the game. He can go from being a dominant force to a passive bystander in a matter of minutes.

He can look like a top-five player in one game, and a role player in another. He can make clutch shots and blocks, but also miss easy layups and free throws. He can be unstoppable on both ends of the floor, but also get outplayed by lesser opponents.

As Jay Williams said on ESPN’s Get Up: “It’s hard for me to recall a superstar in this game that has such extremes. There are times when I watch AD, I’m like, your ceiling is on the level of Jokić or Embiid, maybe better. But your floor is JaVale McGee.

This inconsistency was on full display in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. Davis had a dismal performance, scoring only 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting, grabbing seven rebounds, and blocking three shots.

He was outplayed by Draymond Green, who held him to 2-of-9 shooting when guarding him. He was also ineffective as a pick-and-roll partner with LeBron James, as the Warriors’ smaller lineups disrupted their chemistry.

How can Anthony Davis bounce back?

The Warriors took advantage of Davis’ lackluster showing and blew out the Lakers 121-97. They scored led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter. Klay Thompson led the way with 30 points and three rebounds, while Stephen Curry added 20 points and 12 assists. The Warriors shot 50.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.

The Lakers, meanwhile, struggled to find any rhythm or flow on offense. James was their only consistent scorer, finishing with 23 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Rui Hachimura chipped in with 21 points off the bench. The Lakers shot 42.6 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from the three-point range.

Davis admitted after the game that he had a bad night, and vowed to be better in Game 3. “I’ll be better making those shots,” he said. “We’ll get back home on our home floor and try to take care of business.

Davis has shown that he can bounce back from poor performances before. Davis needs to raise his floor and lower his ceiling gap if he wants to lead the Lakers to another title. The Lakers will have a home-court advantage in Game 3 as the series moves to Crypto.com Arena.
