Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have finally agreed on a contract extension. Many thought the young guard would roll out of the system breaking his superstar duo with Jayson Tatum. But that’s not the case at all and Jaylen Brown has ended up bagging a historic contract. JB agreed on a supermax contract extension with the Celtics worth $304 million for five years.
Jaylen Brown’s agent Jason Glushon deserves a raise. As he negotiated the richest contract in the league’s history. And, has guaranteed JB generational wealth making him a rich man. The deal has a trade kicker and comes with no player option. The contract kicks in at the start of the 2023-24 season. And, under the extension next season Jaylen Brown would be making $52.3 million. In the final year of the deal, he’ll be getting almost $70 million as an annual salary.
Jaylen Brown was eligible for the supermax extension since the start of this month. Him making the All-NBA second team last season made this signing possible. He achieved that selection after a monstrous regular season where he averaged: 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals. He shot 49.1% from the field and 33.5% from downtown.
Celtics fans are happy as the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown live. But let’s not forget that Tatum too would be eligible for a supermax extension next summer. And, the franchise can be in some trouble then. Many fans are also disappointed with the extension. As they don’t find Brown deserving of the richest deal in NBA history after he failed to live up to the expectations in the playoffs.
Twitter reacts to Jaylen Brown signing the richest contract in NBA history
Fans aren’t holding themselves an inch back while criticizing the Boston Celtics for offering Jaylen Brown the richest contract in the league ever. They are clowning the life out of Brown.
They bring his weak left hand, poor off-ball defensive skills, and weak handles to the conversation. Some fans are really frustrated with this extension. You can find some of the many reactions posted by fans on Twitter here below:
The Boston Celtics would now be expecting nothing but a championship from the Big 3 of Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis. The franchise can also end up struggling with contracts, signings, and extensions of other players. Brown though has bailed out the team many times and they have him under contract during his prime years. So with the correct pieces, the BIG 3 can really make the Celtics champions again.
