Jaylen Brown under fire for retweeting Black Hebrew Israelites supporters’ video

Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown found himself surrounded by the another massive controversial when Kyrie Irving returned to the NBA after satisfying the terms of his return and taking full account of his actions on antisemitism. The Boston Celtics guard retweeted a clip from Twitter that showed a large crowd of Black Hebrew Israelites, which allegedly were disturbing propaganda flyers for the Radical Hebrew Israelite sect. They are characterized as a hate group by SPLC.
Brown’s retweet received a huge backlash from Twitter, to which he posted a Tweet providing clarification for his retweet. Explaining his ignorance Brown wrote, “I was not aware of what specific group that was outside of Barclay’s Center tonight. I was celebrating the unification of our people welcoming the return of Kyrie to the court, first glance I thought it was a known fraternity the (C/Que’s) Omega psi phi (step’n) showing support.”
When Kyrie was asked about his view on the group that also wore t-shirts that said “Isreal United in Christ”, Irving vehemently denied talking about anything that was not basketball.
Previously, Black Hebrew Israelites had handed out brochures on November 9 right before the Nets’ game against the New York Knicks at the Barclays Center. However, the number of supporters in the group was much larger. Brown might have saved himself through his justification but it is highly unlikely that the media would let him go that easy for using the platform carelessly.
Twitter destroys Jaylen Brown for his controversial retweet

Jaylen Brown the vice president of the NBPA came in support of Kyrie Irving when Irving was under a lot of heat for the controversy surrounding his alleged antisemitic views. The Celtics star and Irving’s former teammate also said that he didn’t believe Kyrie was antisemitic and the terms of his return to basketball were severe.
Just after Jaylen retweeted the clip of Black Hebrew Israelites wearing “Isreal United in Christ”, several articles immediately fell on the internet that questioned Brown’s stand on the whole Kyrie Irving matter. Twitter users took notice and slammed Brown for his ignorance and irresponsible actions. One of the users wrote, “Bro, your tweet amplifying this group is way easier to find than this “I was unaware” post. Just pointing that out.” Another user asked Brown to do his research before he makes something public with his support, it wrote, “I appreciate the apology but TAKE FIVE MINUTES TO RESEARCH THINGS FIRST!!” Here are some of the reactions from Twitter users to Brown’s tweet;
The 26-year-old’s retweet holds a larger significance since he was the one who first came in support of Irving following his suspension. Despite his explanation, questions about his motive to support Kyrie and retweeting the clip are going to be asked by the media.
