“Celtics have quit on their coach” – Jayson Tatum and co. don’t want to play for Joe Mazzulla, claims Boston championship winner
The Celtics’ collapse in the conference finals and why they quit on their coach

The Boston Celtics are on the brink of elimination after a dismal performance in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. Jayson Tatum-led Celtics, who were the No. 2 seed in the East, have fallen into a 3-0 hole in the series and have shown no signs of life or fight.
The Heat, who were the No. 8 seed in the East, have been the better team in every way. They have outscored, outrebounded, out-assisted, and outshot the Celtics in all three games and have made them look like a shell of themselves. One of the harshest critics of the Celtics’ performance has been Eddie House, a former Boston player who was part of the 2008 championship team. House, who is now an analyst for NBC Sports Boston, did not hold back when he shared his thoughts on the Celtics’ situation after Game 3.
“I feel like the Celtics have quit on their coach,” House said. “Let’s call it what we really see. I feel like those guys out there don’t believe in what their coach is doing. We’ve seen that done in many other places. I don’t believe that they really believe in Joe Mazzulla. I just feel that.”
House added that he was appalled and disgusted by the Celtics’ lack of competitiveness and professionalism. He said that he expected more from a team that has such a storied history and tradition of winning.
Joe Mazzulla, who was promoted from an interim coach, took full ownership of the lopsided result after the game. “I just didn’t have them ready to play,” Mazzulla said in his postgame press conference. ” … I have to get them in a better place, ready to play. That’s on me.”
He was further asked whether there is a disconnect between him and the players, to which he gave a pretty surprising answer. “Yeah, it’s why I need to be better to figure out what this team needs,” Mazzulla said.
When asked a follow-up question about why he thinks there’s a disconnect, Mazzulla responded with, “I’m not sure.”

Jayson Tatum and the Celtics struggle in a blowout loss to the Heat

The Heat had a balanced attack in their blowout win over the Celtics, with Gabe Vincent leading all scorers with 29 points. Duncan Robinson added 22 points, and Caleb Martin chipped in 18 points off the bench.
The Celtics, on the other hand, struggled mightily on offense, as their star duo of Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for a dismal 26 points on 12-of-35 shooting. Brown missed all seven of his 3-point attempts, while Tatum had three turnovers. The Celtics shot a woeful 39.8% from the field and 26.2% from beyond the arc, and gave up 15 turnovers. They had no answer for the Heat’s defense, and failed to capitalize on the rare occasions even when they got stops.
The Celtics are now facing an inevitable elimination from the playoffs unless they can pull off a miraculous comeback against the Heat. However, even if they do manage to win one or two games, it will not change the fact that this team has serious problems that need to be addressed in the offseason.
