The Boston Celtics are in a deep hole after losing Game 3 to the Miami Heat by 26 points. The Heat now have a commanding 3-0 series lead and are one win away from reaching the NBA Finals. The Celtics’ stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, struggled mightily in Game 3, combining for just 26 points on 12-of-35 shooting.

Tatum said after the game that he has not been paying attention to any of the criticism or praise that he or the Celtics have received on social media during the playoffs. He said that he deleted Twitter off his phone before the postseason started and has not looked at it since then. He added that on Twitter, if you win, you are the star, but if you lose, you are not the star and the team’s not good enough.

Tatum’s decision to stay away from Twitter may have been a way to avoid distractions and focus on his game. Still, it also may have cost him some valuable feedback and motivation from NBA fans who have been roasting him for his poor performance and his claim of deleting Twitter.

Boston shot a dismal 36.6% from the field and 20.6% from beyond the arc, while giving up 18 points off 14 turnovers. Miami, on the other hand, had a balanced attack led by three undrafted players: Gabe Vincent (29 points), Duncan Robinson (22 points) and Caleb Martin (18 points). The Heat are now one win away from making history as the second eighth seed to reach the NBA Finals. The only other team to do that was the 1999 Knicks in a shortened season.

As soon as Tatum’s post-game comments went viral, Twitter users did not hold back in making fun of him for his excuse and his lack of awareness of what was happening in the NBA world. Some of the tweets were:

Tatum may have thought that he was doing himself a favor by avoiding Twitter, but he may have missed out on some useful tips and jokes that could have helped him improve his game and lighten up his mood. He may have to face them sooner or later, especially if the Celtics lose Game 4 and get swept by the Heat.
