“I’m 24 and already one of the best players” Jayson Tatum humbly acknowledges the scope of improvement

Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum proved his capabilities in recent seasons. Playing alongside fellow young stars like Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown, he put the Celts back on playoff maps. Though the Celtics were regulars in the postseason, their runs were cut short before the trio made their presence felt. And in 2022, Tatum played a pivotal role in taking the Celtics to the NBA Finals after a long wait of 12 seasons. While talking in an exclusive interview with Jared Weiss of The Athletic, Jayson Tatum spoke about his experience in the league.
In the interview, Tatum mentioned how he loves being one of the best players in the game. He said it puts him in a situation to challenge other stars of the league. But at the same time, Tatum also mentioned that he can always improve for better results.
Tatum and the team looked to be solid defensively throughout the 2022 playoffs but Golden State Warriors managed to unlock the same in the final 6 games, winning the title convincingly. Now they are looking to better their performances and regain supremacy in the league.
Jayson Tatum vows to improve on his game.

Duke-star Tatum entered the league in the 2017 draft as 3rd overall pick by the Celtics. He made an instant impact on the historically rich franchise. But he did manage to improve on each and every season’s performances. In the recent season, he averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game for the Celts, the best production in his 5-season career.
Fan of Kobe Bryant, he followed the Mamba mentality – getting better every day. In the mentioned interview he said, “(I learned) that I’m 24 and one of the best players in the world and that I will compete against whoever and take on that challenge. In that same breath, I feel like there’s so much I could be better at, and I think that’s the exciting part.”
Tatum did play and won against the KD-Kyrie pair, Harden-Embiid-Maxey trio, and Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat team to reach the finals. But playing against a star-studded Golden State Warriors gave him chance to look at points to make improvements. “That I’m at where I’m at, where there’s so much more I can be, so much more I can learn and so many more experiences to go through,” Celtics forward added.
Jayson Tatum is clearly a very effective star on both ends of the floor. Offensively he led his team in many departments, but defensively also he helped set defense to disrupt the opponent’s offense. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard won many praises for their similar feat and even delivered titles for their franchises.
Tatum has done just that as he has put the NBA on notice for how he can pick up the most arduous defensive assignment on the night and shut down the opponent. With his size and length to his advantage, he has become a formidable perimeter defender. Also, offensively his mid-range and long-range shooting have improved a bit, posing threat to his defenders.
Improved Tatum is what the Boston Celtics team would be hoping for, as they have a very capable team of making consistent deep playoff runs.
