This year’s NBA All-Star weekend took place between 16-18 February and was hosted by Indianapolis, Indiana. Every year some of the best NBA players compete against one another to win the All-Star game. This year the NBA brought back the East vs. West format.

Hence, the Boston Celtics teammates Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown played together in Team East. During the game, Tatum asked the Team East head coach Doc Rivers to give his playing minutes to teammate Jaylen Brown. Tatum reportedly said he wanted Brown to win the All-Star MVP award. Tatum had won the award last year.

Despite playing similar minutes, Brown had 36 points to Tatum’s 20. Brown also scored the second most points on the team. Team East ended up winning the game as 211-186. Team East also became the first team in an NBA All-Star game to score more than 200 points.

By the difference of a few points, Brown lost the award to the Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard. The guard was a starter for the team, unlike Brown. Lillard was certainly the star of the weekend, as he also won the NBA three-point contest for the second time in a row.

NBA fans had interesting reactions to the Jayson Tatum story

Jayson Tatum is currently a topic of discussion among fans as he is on the NBA MVP ladder. There has been a lot of controversy around his eligibility to qualify for the award. Some fans believe that the Celtics forward deserves the award and some do not.

Recently, in an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Tatum called himself the best player in the current NBA, resulting in backlash from fans. Hence, fans have mixed reactions to Tatum’s great teammate gesture.

Tatum is currently the fifth player on the MVP ladder. He is averaging 26.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists with 47.5 FG% this year. In 21 games this season, the forward has scored 30+ points. He is also having one of his best defensive runs this year.
