Jayson Tatum and Kobe Bryant

Jayson Tatum is the best player for Boston Celtics and if Ime Udoka’s team has to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010, they would be expecting their marquee scorer to fire on all cylinders. With Heat giving him a tough time on the offensive end of the court in the previous game, Tatum definitely requires some inspiration, for which he has turned towards Kobe Bryant.

There are no two ways in stating that modern-day NBA players were and always will be highly influenced by the leadership and mentality of Black Mamba. On the same note in Game 7 vs Miami Heat, Jayson Tatum decided to wear Kobe on his arm with the iconic purple 24 band in the hopes of rising up to the occasion against the best-team in the Eastern Conference.

Given the circumstance and the Los Angeles Lakers icon he’s honoring, surely Celtics fans would forgive him for wearing the forbidden colors for at least one game. A handful of them even took the move as a sign that Jayson Tatum wasn’t going to let Boston Celtics lose. It’s a fitting tribute given that Tatum had just joined Kobe Bryant as the top 2 youngest players to ever reach the 1,500 playoff point plateau. Both the Lakers and Celtics made the playoffs in each of the players’ first five seasons, eight for the Lakers legend to be exact, which largely helped them get to that number.

That being said, given that Tatum has been the best player for the Celtics, Miami Heat has given him a tough task to score easily by frequently double-man-marking him as the game progresses deep. Will we witness Bryant-like-play once again in the Eastern Conference Finals? Can Jayson Tatum once can elaborate upon his legacy? Remains to be seen.

With Tyler Herro returning for Heat, will he be able to prove the ultimate x-factor for the home team? Given that 77.7% if times home team in Game 7 in the NBA Playoffs history have progressed, will there be a buzz of cheer or extreme sorrow in and around the FTX Arena? Time will unravel all answers.
