Stephen Curry and Golden State Warriors were in a must-win situation in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. But playing in front of TD garden against young and hungry Boston Celtics players was never an easy task. Though Golden State Warriors had experience behind them, no star gave match-winning performances in the previous 3 games against the Eastern Conference Champions, except for Stephen Curry. And 2-time MVP delivered yet again, inspiring his team to the victory. Many pundits and analysts criticized Steph for not being able to close the game, but he answered then with a strong “on-court” performance. Jeff Van Gundy, covering the game for ESPN couldn’t help but compare Steph’s performances with LeBron James’ in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Jeff Van Gundy made a very bold claim about Steph Curry’s run in the 2022 NBA Finals. Praising the former NBA champion for his Game 4 performance he drew comparisons between Curry’s staggering performance and that of LeBron James when he won the 2016 NBA finals with the Cavs.
Curry has done everything to win games both at home and away. He scored around 30 points in the previous 3 games and then in game 4 he erupted with 43 points and 10 rebounds. Impressed by 4th game performance former Rockets coach said, “Steph Curry has had to carry the Warriors today like LeBron James had to carry those Cavs teams.”

NBA Megastar LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers to a championship in 2016, which was the first championship in any major sports league. He also won 3 Eastern Conference Championships with the Cavs but lost the Finals against Golden State Warriors. Though Stephen Curry didn’t solely lead the Warriors to the finals, his contributions were miraculous.
In 2022 though, it’s been only Stephen Curry Show for the Warriors. He has been brilliant throughout the postseason, winning an inaugural Western Conference Finals MVP award, and is now on a roll to win the only trophy left from his trophy cabinet – NBA Finals MVP Award. LeBron James when won the championship with the Cavs averaged around 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Steph is having similar production in the 2022 Finals.
The 3-point king has been on fire in the NBA Finals. In all-important game 4 of the 2022 NBA Finals Steph not only scored effortlessly in the whole game but also most importantly, he excelled in the final 5 minutes of the game where the team struggled in previous games.
The three-time NBA champion is averaging 34.3 PPG and 6.3 RPG while shooting 50% from the field and 49% from the three-point range. He led in all four games in scoring among both teams and look unstoppable at times. He is looking like the best player in the series.
