ESPN have released their long layoffs list of NBA analysts and reporters following the Network’s attempt to cut cost on Salaries. Top NBA game analyst and former NBA Coach Jeff Van Gundy was also part of the layoffs, an unexpected move by the Network as Gundy has been with ESPN for over 16 years and was part of the sideline crew that called the NBA Finals.

As reported by several outlets the move to layoff 20 on-air talents came strictly as a cost saving move. All while Gundy might be one of the best analysts in the Bizz, although his salary was not disclosed to the public, he has been reportedly racking millions of dollars every year from his job and other big names from different sports are also included in the list that could potentially save the media company of tens of millions of dollars.

Van Gundy is considered to be the best NBA media personnel in history with him just a few games shy of calling one hundred NBA Finals Games. He is part of ESPN’s go-to trio where he calls games alongside analyst Mark Jackson and play-by-player Mike Breen.

ESPN is expected to replace Gundy with newer talents. JJ Redick, Richard Jefferson and Doris Burke emerged as leading candidates to fill in Van Gundy’s job.

Van Gundy’s split from ESPN came as a surprise for many as he was one of their best-performing members on the job. Along with Gundy other big names like Jalen Rose and a fan favorite Max Kellerman were fired by the network.

The fans handled Gundy’s firing with mixed emotions as the fans questioned the network’s decision saying that other media personnel like Kendrick Perkins and Malika Andrews should not be getting a job over a guy like Van Gundy.
