“Averaged 12 points a game!” Jerry West calls out $50 Million former star for disrespecting Bob Cousy

Jerry West has been a real one for old school squad of the league as the never-ending debates and comparisons between the two eras are still alive. Recently, the NBA logo himself criticized JJ Redick for his take on Bob Cousy as that was disrespectful and absolutely unnecessary. This take by JJ Redick has not only damaged the image of new media but has also damaged his reputation as a former player in the league. As Jerry West didn’t hold himself back while criticizing him for his take which was an unhealthy remark.
It all started during a heated debate between JJ Redick and Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo. As they were comparing the different eras and players in the league. After some discussion, they came to a comparison between Bob Cousy and other great point guards of the league. Adding to his side of the old school club Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo mentioned that Bob Cousy in a game over had 29 assists. Denying it all JJ Redick made a disrespectful statement toward the talent of Bob and his competition by quoting: “He was being guarded by plumbers and firemen”. This didn’t age well with Bob Cousy and Jerry West as they have fired shots back at the former NBA player now turned into an analyst. Jerry West though has really taken that comment personally as he ripped apart JJ’s soul.
Bob Cousy responding to the shade thrown at him and the guys back in the days quoted: “People with less talent will always try to make a name for themselves by criticizing other people and hopefully getting some attention and perhaps increasing their credibility. So, when you respond to something like this, you play into their hands. I won’t do that. But I will defend the firemen and the plumbers that he referenced…Bill Russell, the aforementioned? Not too bad a player. Wilt Chamberlain, remember that guy? He wasn’t bad. I guess he must have fought fires as well…And we must have had the best firemen and plumbers on the planet at the time. And I was very proud to play with all of them.” He gave a very sensible reply but again even Jerry West was on the list of plumbers and firemen so he fired one straight at JJ Redick’s career.

Jerry West rips apart JJ Redick for his disrespectful comments regarding Bob Cousy and his competition
Jerry West recently joined SiriusXM Radio and discussed the following comment there. He was very critical for JJ Redick as he quoted: “Obviously the game is completely different. The athletes are completely different. I know JJ a little bit, a very smart kid and everything. But tell me what his career looked like? What did he do that determined games? He averaged, what, 12 points a game in the league? Somewhere along the line, numbers count. At that point in time, the players aren’t what they used to be. J.J. certainly wasn’t gonna guard the elite players. And so you can nitpick anyone. The only reason I’m talking about him is he was not an elite player. He was a very good player. But he had a place on a team because of his ability to shoot the ball.”
Jerry West got the job done by a sweet but spicy take of his and now surely JJ Redick regrets his words. The comparison of players who played in different eras and even decades will always be senseless and unpredictable but still, the media isn’t understanding that. As the game is in a changing and evolving environment so greats of different eras have their own pros and cons which can’t be compared. But that’s what the analyst did at First Take and now he is paying the price.
