Jimmy Butler admits to being ‘humbled’ by eliminated Washington Wizards in upset defeat
The Miami Heat were stunned by the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
Miami Heat's small forward Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat (8th seed) fell to a disappointing 108-110 loss last night against the Washington Wizards (14th seed) at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. This is the third consecutive loss in a row for the Miami team, and coming against the second-worst team in the league, who at some point were on a 16-game losing streak, confirmed their elimination from playoffs contention on Saturday.
However, the Miami Heat had the chance to either tie the game or take the win in the closing minutes but fell short as Duncan Robinson and star forward Jimmy Butler saw their opportunities for game-winning shots fall off the mark. Nonetheless, Butler was the Heat’s best player on the court, with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Kyle Kuzma led the player’s statistics chart for the Wizards with 32 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Following the disappointing loss, Jimmy Butler spoke to media and emphasized the need for the Heat to step up and avoid losing to lesser teams and bouncing back.
This game is very humbling. [If we don’t] come out with the right mindset, this is what will happen, this is what will continue to happen. Ain't too much to say.Butler
The Heat are 8th on the Eastern Conference Standings with a 35-29 record. Next for the Heat is a challenging home game against the Denver Nuggets.
Jimmy Butler’s thoughts on his missed game-winner against the Washington Wizards
Butler and the Miami Heat left with their tails behind their back as they were humbled by the second-worst team in the league this season, the Washington Wizards. However, things could have turned out differently if Butler was clinical enough when allowed to win or tie the game for the Heats.
With less than two seconds left on the clock and the Miami Heat two points down, Butler had a decision to make. He chose glory as he went for a three with his shot crashing off the rim, giving the Wizards their second win in a row. Butler confidently said after the game that he doesn’t regret his decision.
I’m never going for the tie. Ever.Butler
As much as fans admire his confidence, Butler will need to become more clinical to have his hands on his first NBA Championship finally. This season, he averages 21.7 points PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 4.9 APG for the Miami Heat.
