Jimmy Butler is not ready to throw in the towel. The Miami Heat star said he still believes his team can win the NBA Finals, even though they are facing a 3-1 deficit to the Denver Nuggets after losing Game 4 at home on Saturday. “We got three [games] to get,” Butler said postgame. “It’s not impossible.”
Butler’s words may sound like wishful thinking to some, especially considering how dominant the Nuggets have been in the series. Led by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, Denver has won their three games by an average of 14 points, outplaying Miami in every facet of the game.
But Butler is not intimidated by Denver’s history or performance. He has faith in himself and his teammates, who have overcome their own challenges this season. The Heat were a plucky eighth seed who barely made the playoffs after dealing with injuries and inconsistency in the regular season.
They stunned the basketball world by upsetting the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the first round, then survived a seven-game series against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Butler has been the leader and catalyst for Miami’s improbable run, averaging 27.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in the playoffs.

Jimmy Butler’s confidence too much for NBA Twitter to handle
Butler’s confidence and determination did not sit well with some fans on Twitter, who mocked him for his unrealistic optimism and his lack of humility. Some even called him names and cursed at him for his bold statement.
Here are some of the tweets that roasted Butler for his fearless approach to the Heat’s 3-1 hole:
Butler may have a lot of critics and doubters right now, but he also has a chance to prove them wrong and make history. He will need to show an MVP level of play and get more support from his supporting cast if he wants to keep the Heat’s hopes alive. He will also need to find a way to slow down Jokic, who has been unstoppable in the Finals, averaging 30.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, and eight assists per game.
But Butler is not concerned about what others think or say. He is focused on what he and his team can do on the court. He has three games to get, and he’s not afraid to say it.
