“Devin is a fighter jet, a Ferrari but you need a good driver” JJ Redick reveals just why Chris Paul is the USP of Phoenix Suns’ resurgence

Chris Paul and Devin Booker in Phoenix Suns

In his famous podcast “Old Man and Three”, JJ Redick explains the importance of Chris Paul in the Phoenix Suns line-up, despite Devin Booker being their primary scorer. The individual game winner is decided by the player’s capability, efforts, and skillets. But just like many would be aware, team games are different. They are decided mostly by the team chemistry and sole performances rarely play a very decisive role in the outcome of the game.

With reference to these norms, JJ Redick explains the situation at the Phoenix Suns franchise. Devin Booker is their star and franchise player over the years, but the addition of Chris Paul made them a title contender team.

The point is never missed or ignored by any analyst and statistician. But JJ put his views in line, as to why Chris Paul has changed the team’s culture and playing style adapted season-after-season.

While Devine Booker’s quality and efficiency are undoubted, pairing him with “Point God” Chris Paul enhanced the team’s performances. While talking in his podcast, JJ Redick jotted down the importance of having a great point guard on the team.

He said“The 2-3 designation I don’t think really holds water anymore, so I think it’s always going to be about who’s a point guard, who’s a center, because two, three, and really four (positions) too, are so interchangeable.”

Still, there are some extraordinary players, who can create their own plays whenever needed. Some notable examples are Reigning regular seasons MVP Nikola Jokic and Final’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. On their capabilities, Redick said, “But then you look at a five like Jokic, or a Giannis, who is their team’s primary play-maker as well; that’s not the true standard of basketball.”

As for other teams, a perfect point guard like Chris Paul is a player to pick. He is a point guard in the truest sense.

36-years old Chris Paul played in 5 different teams in his career, and he always has been a very important piece of each of those teams. Even in his early days in NBA, he made mid-table New Orleans a very competitive team with his play-making and shooting abilities.

Even in his famous pairing with Blake Griffin-DeAndre Jordan, the Clippers were known as “Lob City” for a reason. Let it be rebuilding Oklahoma City or title-chasing Houston Rockets, Paul was pivotal in their progress and played a huge role in deciding the outcome of the matches.

Currently, with the Devin Booker and Phoenix Suns team, Paul helped the team to end their 18 years of wait for the conference title and nearly won his 1st NBA ring. Chris Paul leads the league with 11 assists per game in regular season and has an average of around 15 points a game. His defensive ability and efforts on court are unmatched by many players, allowing the Suns to have upper hand in the games.

That being said CP3 hardly failed on his expectations, but the missing silverware from his resume is what the veteran guard will be aiming for this season. The Phoenix Suns are looking all set for the final missing chapter in franchise history. They will play 8th seed Pelicans in the 1st round.
