“Guy’s a CHAMPION,” JJ Redick says Damian Lillard is a true champion even when he’s not won a championship

JJ Redick and Damian Lillard

Former NBA player turned ESPN analyst JJ Redick talked highly about Portland Trailblazers star shooter Damian Lillard. Since joining Damian has been a vital cog in the Trailblazers’ machine. JJ feels that even if Damian doesn’t have a championship title, he is still a champion player.

As reported by Bleacher Report, former Orlando Magic star JJ Redick quoted, “You can’t tell me Damian Lillard is not a f**king winner. Yes, he doesn’t have a ring, but I would say that guy’s a champion.” This is not the first time JJ has had his mouthful of praises for Damian Lillard. He has always spoken highly of him whenever he gets a chance.

The Portland TrailBlazers selected Damian Lillard as the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. He made his debut in the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored 23 points and 11 assists to join Oscar Robertson and Allen Iverson as the only players in NBA history with at least 20 points and ten assists in their NBA debut. He has been a part of the Blazers franchise since he joined them in 2012.

Lillard successfully claimed the NBA Rookie of the Year Award to Blake Griffin (2011), David Robinson (1990), and Ralph Sampson (1984) as the only unanimous winners. He recorded his first All-star and All-NBA selection during the 2013-14 NBA season. Damian became a franchise player in the 2015-16 season after he signed a five-year, $120 million contract extension with the Trail Blazers. He also became the fastest player to reach 5,000 points and 1,500 assists (248 games) since Derrick Rose (240 games) that year.

He is also an awardee of the Magic Johnson Award for the 2016–17 season, which honors the player who combines excellence on the basketball court with cooperation and dignity while dealing with the media and the public. He is making this season count after losing the whole last season, citing an injury.
