Search up the best Low IQ moments in the NBA, you will see a plethora of clips and highlights of players making mistakes or costing their team. But there is one that stands out, the infamous JR Smith moment in the 2018 NBA finals.
Everyone remembers that moment. The Golden State Warriors fans, Cleveland Cavaliers fans, LeBron James, Jr Smith himself, and even Joe Rogan. So much so, that the popular podcaster talked about that topic in his podcast series alongside American comedian and writer Erik Griffin. While they discussed the final, there arose a strange yet “could-be” theory as to why Jr Smith fumbled at the last moments of the final.
While browsing through the internet, they found a picture of Jr Smith which looked suspicious as Joe and Erik both agreed that he was high. Joe on his podcast, said,
Stoners understand other stoners.
Erik couldn’t help but make a remark saying “He had brain slip because of smoking weed.” referring to that infamous final fumble by Jr Smith where he ran out the clock, despite them drawing that game. And Joe Rogan couldn’t agree more saying “I guarantee he did.”
As they continued to discuss the doping system in the NBA and whether players could play in such circumstances, you can’t totally deny Jr Smith wasn’t himself at that moment. Whether it was the substance use or pressure, it certainly was one of the worst ways to fumble in a big game.
Jr Smith’s questionable act in the 2018 NBA Finals
2018 NBA finals, Game 1, and probably the worst time one can ask for one’s brain to stop functioning. This is exactly what happened with Jr Smith.
If you missed that game, count yourself unlucky. The Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Both teams tied up with the score at 107 and with only 4.7 seconds remaining on the clock, something was bound to happen. After Cavs guard George Hill missed the free throw, it was the heroic effort of JR Smith to get the rebound. But in a matter of a second, he went from the top to rock bottom.
With just 4 seconds on the clock, JR thought their team, the Cavaliers, was leading and decided to dribble outside the perimeter to kill time, only to realize the game was tied. His attempt to make anything happen failed as he was out of time and the game went to OT.
In that period, the Warriors managed to win the final by 124-114. It was a moment to remember for all Warriors fans but for JR Smith and the Cavs, it was a moment to forget.
