Joel Embiid has been playing at an unbelievable level this season. The reigning MVP has been consistently ahead of the other competitors in this year’s MVP race so far. However, no one could have predicted what sort of a game Embiid would have going up against the best shot blocker in the league.

The Philadelphia 76ers superstar flat-out dominated the game against the San Antonio Spurs. Embiid finished with a career-high 70 points. He also grabbed 18 rebounds and dished out 5 assists along with that.

What stunned fans across the world was the different ways Embiid got to that astronomical number. Post ups, stepbacks, hesitation-based layups, floaters, and of course, free throws. Although he shot 21 free throws, it should not go against the big man, as even without them, he would have almost 50 on the night.

Embiid got to this number going up against the best shot blocker in the league Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama did get 2 blocks, but it did not matter to Embiid. Embiid also did not rely on three-point shots to get to the number, and was seemingly unstoppable.

The 76ers ran out 133-123 winners against the San Antonio Spurs. Embiid’s performance was more than enough as only two of his teammates finished in double figures. In contrast, even 6 double-digit scorers from the Spurs did not prove enough. Embiid’s numbers covered the productions of 6 out of the 10 players who played for the Spurs. That is literally the definition of domination.

Basketball fans have been treated to a spectacular year from Joel Embiid. While putting up career highs in terms of points per game, and assists, his other departments haven’t suffered. He is close to his highs in rebounding, and has familiarly been a defensive stalwart as well.
