Joel Embiid has been struggling this season due to injuries. At the beginning of the season, The Philadelphia 76ers star was having problems with his hip. Since December, he has been facing major difficulties with his knee. Due to the situation, Embiid missed his second straight game in a loss against the Portland Trail Blazers. This marks the 12th missed game of the 2022-23 MVP this season. If the player misses 5 more games, he will not be eligible for the regular season awards.

Before The Nuggets vs 76ers game on Saturday, Jan 27, the Philadelphia 76ers failed to include the player in the injury report ahead of the game. The NBA fined the organization $75,000, for failing to include the player “in an accurate and timely manner.”

Embiid returned in the game against The Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, 30th Jan. We could see the Philadelphia Forward was struggling during the game. In the game, while fighting to get a rebound, Warrior’s Forward Jonathan Kuminga fell on Embiid’s left knee. The player was visibly in pain and headed to the locker room.

On Saturday, according to the reports, Joel Embiid was diagnosed with a displaced meniscus flap in his left knee and is considering surgery. The 76ers and the player’s doctors are also discussing other options such as rest or rehab for the player’s recovery.

NBA fans were upset by the star’s injury report

Even if Joel Embiid and the 76ers organization decide not to go with the surgery for his injury, the star is most likely to be absent for numerous games. Fans expressed disappointment as they felt that the star played through injury because of the fine and the new 65-game rule.

Embiid was dropped from Number 1 to Number 3 on the MVP ladder. He is likely to be dropped even more due to this latest injury. Fans were unhappy as this might be the end of Embiid’s MVP run this season. Fans are hoping to see him play soon and wish him a speedy recovery.

According to the new 65-game rule of the NBA, a player needs to play at least 65 games and be on the court for 20 minutes in those games to be eligible for awards such as MVP, DPOY, Most Improved Player, All-NBA, and All-Defense.
