In an interesting VLADTV interview from 2021, former basketball player John Salley had echoed the bold statements made by Hall of Fame coach George Karl. Their discussion delved into the contentious issue of performance-enhancing drugs in the NBA, igniting fervent debate among viewers and sports enthusiasts.

In his contentious book “Furious George,” the veteran NBA head coach George Karl stirred controversy among former players with his accusations. As reported by Dan Feldman of NBC Sports, the then 65-year-old in 2017 claimed a pervasive issue of illegal substances within the NBA, implicating performance-enhancing drugs such as steroids and human growth hormone.

Karl raised suspicions about players who appeared to defy aging by becoming leaner and fitter, recovering swiftly from injuries, and making trips to Europe, insinuating the potential use of hard-to-detect blood boosters and PEDs.

John Salley said:

This is the deal. When you went to Germany, you PRP, where they take your blood out, spin it, oxidize it, put it back into the joint area. Helping healing faster.

George Karl had suggested that while the NBA has stricter drug testing than the NFL and MLB, he believes the league is often behind in catching those who use performance-enhancing substances. He cites examples like Kobe Bryant, who underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy in Germany for his knee, along with other players such as Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, and Deron Williams who have sought similar treatments overseas.

John Salley claimed he carried a gun during his career in the NBA

During a recent interview with Vlad TV, former NBA player John Salley, renowned for his stint with the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons in the late 1980s, revealed that he carried a gun with him at all times while playing for the team.

He said:

When I was in Detroit, I always had a gun. Even though I was with my brothers and we had security, I always carried my gun. I'm not saying I was right but I was ready.

John Salley, a former NBA player who won championships with the Pistons, Bulls, and Lakers, carried a gun for protection during his playing days with the Pistons and Heat. While he no longer carries one due to permit restrictions, he underscores the importance of being prepared for potential threats.
