John Salley Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant
Former Los Angeles Lakers champion player John Salley made a shocking revelation as to why was the late NBA great Kobe Bryant made to sit out after scoring jaw-dropping 81 points. He also told that it was a decision taken by former LA Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. Salley gave out a detailed insight about this incident recently.
John Salley mentioned this incident while talking on the podcast ‘Club Shay Shay’ where he quoted, “I didn’t agree with something Phil Jackson said to me… I said, ‘Phil, Kobe had 81. No matter what you do, he was about to get 104.’ They would’ve kept feeding him the ball. The other side would’ve been like, ‘Don’t hurt him.’ But, there would’ve been clearouts, and Kobe would’ve got 104. He goes, ‘Well, some records need to stand.’ And I was like, ‘Wow.’ He goes, ‘He’s No. 2. He doesn’t need to be No. 1.’”
Kobe was on a rampage when he added 81 points to his name when the LA Lakers played against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006. Bryant led the charge of his team to a comeback victory by going 28-for-46 from the field and 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. He made history in the league as he scored the second-most points ever in an NBA game. The record for the most points scored in a single NBA game is still in Late Wilt Chamberlain’s name as he nailed 100 points while playing against the New York Knicks in 1962.
John Salley doesn’t think that the record for NBA’s all-time leading scorer will be broken

John Salley doesn’t think that NBA superstar LeBron James will be able to surpass legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s record. Salley talked to analyst Shannon Sharpe on his podcast ‘Club Shay Shay,’ where he discussed this record. He stated that, “They’re not going to let him get it.” With ‘they,’ Salley might appear to have pointed out to the opposition team players or even the Lakers coaching staff.
Currently, James is well-placed with 37,281, which is 1,106 points short of Kareem’s record. He’s currently averaging 24.3 points per game, and there are 72 games still left in the season. If he keeps going with this speed he will need about 46 more games in the NBA to break the record. But as he picked up an injury concern while playing against the arch-rivals LA Clippers in the last game, his fans will probably have to wait longer to see their star breaking this record and re-writing history.
