Draymond Green has not been able to distance himself from the incident involving him and Jordan Poole that occurred last year. In the leaked video during the previous year’s training camp, Draymond was seen punching Poole. Following the incident, Draymond never truly apologized and only received a suspension for a few preseason games, drawing harsh criticism from the fans.

Nearly nine months after the incident, both Poole and Draymond still face questions about the event. In a recent appearance on the Pat Bev Podcast, Draymond was asked a similar question and justified his actions but did not express any regret.

“I don’t just hit people,” he said. Dialogue happens over time and you usually ain’t triggered by something that fast. We know stuff you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on.”

This comment elicited an enraged response from Anthony Poole, Jordan Poole’s father, who took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction, stating that Draymond did not apologize to him or Jordan’s mother and avoided meeting him last year.”I’m stand on this that’s is some bs. Jp was his guy and he avoid me all last yr. He is a soft as bitch and I’m standing on this and he didn’t apologize to me and my wife. So he sad and me and him can meet anytime he want,” Anthony said

What affect did the incident had on the team?

After the punch by Draymond, the team chemistry suffered greatly. Poole’s on-court performance declined significantly, going from an enigmatic sharpshooter to a player shooting below the league average at 43%. Additionally, the bench production, which had been a major factor in the Warriors’ success, declined.

With Poole now traded to the Washington Wizards, there is no clear contender on the team to whom Stephen Curry could pass the torch. The Warriors acquired Chris Paul in the Poole trade to provide a veteran presence, but with Paul being 38 years old, there aren’t many young players to carry the Warriors franchise forward.

Although Poole’s trade allowed the Warriors to re-sign Draymond to a new 4-year $100 million contract, Jordan will have the chance to become the franchise guard he was expected to be with the Warriors after Steph left. At Washington, he will be given the opportunity to be the primary ball handler.
