The New York Knicks faced the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday at home. The game was a reunion for the former Villanova Wildcats players. While the Knicks are having a great run being the 4th team in the Eastern Conference, the same cannot be said about the 11th-seeded Nets. The Knicks’ forward hilariously described his former teammates’ situation as being a part of the team.
Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo reunited as teammates for the New York Knicks earlier this season. The stars played together in college and were even roommates. As the Knicks played the Brooklyn Nets another Villanova Wildcat joined the college squad. Mikal Bridges was met with his former teammates as the Nets took the loss, 105-93.
As the Knicks have been thriving with their young star trio, the Nets have been struggling to secure a spot even in the play-in tournament. The Knicks Josh Hart could not help but feel sorry for his former teammate. After the game, Hart used a hilarious way to describe Bridges’ situation with the Nets. The star referred to a SpongeBob meme as he feels Bridges is getting left out of the Wildcats gang. Hart said via New York Daily News:
It’s like that SpongeBob meme when Squidward is looking out the window and he sees SpongeBob and Patrick having fun.Josh Hart said
Hart referred to Bridges as ‘Squidward’ as the Knicks took the win. Reuniting the Villanova trio has been a beneficial decision for the Knicks. The team is currently among the best teams in the NBA. The team ended their regular season last year with a 47-35 record. However, this season they already have a record of 42-28 while the playoffs are two months away.
Mikal Bridges won an NCAA championship with the Knicks stars
In 2016, the Villanova Wildcats had a roster full of future NBA stars. The Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo along with Nets’ Mikal Bridges won the NCAA championship together that year. Now being on the Knicks and Nets the players are in drastically different situations in the NBA.
While Brunson and Hart were the starters in the Wildcats championship roster, Bridges and DiVincenzo made their contributions coming off the bench. In the close final game, the Villanova Wildcats defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels 77-74. Earlier this year, Knicks fans wanted the four players to play together in the team.
As the Knicks signed DiVincenzo in July, Hart even posted a tweet hoping the team would complete the Wildcats’ 2016 roster in New York. However, the Nets expressed that they were not interested in trading Bridges. The trio of the Knicks have a chance to win another championship together, only this time with a bigger title in front of them in the form of the NBA.
