Some say LeBron James is the best player in the world, some say it is either Stephen Curry or Nikola Jokic. Rasheed Wallace, an NBA champion and a 4 time All-Star has a different opinion to the rest of the world as to who is the best player. He thinks Kevin Durant is the best in the world.

Wallace places some logic behind his pick. According to him, Durant does not need to do multiple dribbles to get shots or pass to a teammate. Wallace says Durant keeps it simple compared to other players who need a build-up to get shots. Simple basketball is the best way to play basketball, which is what Durant plays.

Kevin Durant is a 6′ 11″ forward whose game is predicated on pull-up jump shots from anywhere on the court. He does have other moves, but his pull-up jumper has been his go-to shot throughout his career. Rasheed Wallace refers to the simplicity of Durant executing those pull-up jumpers. Wallace says while speaking on the @GilsArenaShow podcast;

He is the best player in the league, no disrespect to everybody else, but it comes too simple for him. He does not have to do a million dribbles to get a bucket or make a pass.

According to Wallace, other players in the league such as Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry, need a buildup in some way to get their shot going. Durant does not have to dribble a lot before shooting. His long frame is enough to give him separation for the shot.

How does Durant compare to the other 3

Kevin Durant is currently the 10th all-time top scorer in the NBA. He has career averages of 27.3 points, 7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. In comparison, Jokic has 20.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game in his career. Stephen Curry averages 24.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. LeBron James, long considered the best player in the NBA for two decades, has averaged 27.2 points 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

Compared to Durant, Jokic and Curry play different positions, and that has affected their game differently. Also, they took some time to develop their now elite play. Compared to James, who also plays the small forward position, the numbers do not give Durant the edge.

However, Rasheed Wallace’s logic about simple basketball makes sense. As per him, that is the best way to play. So, his opinion is derived based on that logic.
