On Tuesday, Draymond Green was again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after his altercation with Phoenix Suns‘ Jusuf Nurkic during their matchup. When it occurred, the Golden State Warriors were leading. In the end, the Phoenix Suns were able to reverse this and hand their opponents their sixth straight road defeat.
The referees gave Green a flagrant two after he had played seventeen minutes because of his wild forearm on Nurkic. The star player for the Warriors finished the game with three turnovers, two rebounds, two assists, and two points.
However, Nurkic was able to continue playing, and he finished the game with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists for the Suns.
At the press conference held after the game, the Bosnian center was questioned on the antics of Draymond Green. All Nurkic could hope for was that Green did not choke him the as he had with Rudy Gobert last month. He said:
What’s going on with him, I don’t know. Personally, that brother needs help. I’m glad he didn’t try to choke me but at the same time, I'm just out there trying to play basketball.
The Suns defeated the Warriors 119-116 to raise their record to 13-10. Their next three games against the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and Washington Wizards will be placed at the Footprint Centre.
Draymond Green apologized to Jusuf Nurkic in the post-game presser
With his third dismissal of the season, Draymond Green is currently in hot water. Everyone was listening to him justify his hit on Jusuf Nurkic. Immediately following the game, an apologetic Green appeared at the media availability. He stated that he had no intention of hitting the Bosnian center
He said:
As you know, I'm not one to apologize for things I meant to do but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn't intent to hit him.
Green has been ejected 19 times in his career, the most of any active player. This was his third ejection of the current campaign. He received two technical fouls in the Warriors’ Nov. 11 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, which led to his dismissal. He had a run-in with Donovan Mitchell in that match.
A few days later, on November 15, he decided to choke Rudy Gobert during the Warriors’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was immediately sent off the field in that match, and the incident cost him a five-game suspension. Since he has a history of acting out, both this season and in the past, it is likely that the league will punish him further for what he did to Nurkic. Green’s average through 15 games is 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.
