Kai Jones signed 10-day contract with Philadelphia 76ers, claims he will be MVP and DPOY of the NBA in his prime
Kai Jones, the former Charlotte Hornets 1st round draft pick has received a second chance in the league with the Philadelphia 76ers. After signing a contract, he claimed that he could now win MVP and DPOY in his prime. Such tall claims led to some wild reactions from fans.
Jones admitted that previously he used to claim a lot using social media. Now, it’s not like he does not think he can still be the best, but he has adjusted his mindset accordingly. On March 15th the Philadelphia 76ers signed Kai Jones to a 10-day contract. After this signing, Jones was asked by The Athletic’s Shams Charania about his mentality coming back.
Jones said:
Guess I had to learn how to navigate life better. To be honest with you Shams, I didn’t want to die. Lot of therapy, basketball has been my refuge. But I think that I’m capable and I think that the best version of me is that the MVP, DPOY, and being the greatest of all time. I think that I can do that. I can beat anybody.

The Charlotte Hornets drafted the former Texas Longhorn standout in 2021. Through 2 seasons he was mostly a part of their rotation. Heading into this season, Jones went on a rant on social media, calling himself the greatest of all time, and that he was better than everyone on his team.
He declined to participate in training camp and publicly requested a trade in October. Consequently, these incidents prompted the Hornets to waive the 6′ 11″ power forward. Now, Jones claims that he has gotten better as a human being by resorting to therapy.
Fans have wild reactions to Kai Jones’ MVP and DPOY claims
Many young basketball players carry an ego regarding their abilities. Kai Jones’ ego used to tell him that he was the greatest player of all time. This is coming from a player who was scoring 3.4 points from the bench. Naturally, fans had questioned his mindset back then. Now with his adjusted claims, it seems he was trying to duck the backlash he received prior to his release from the Charlotte Hornets.
Little does he realize that fans did not hold back this time also. Fans believe a player on a 10-day contract should first look at getting a second contract. Check out some of the reactions from fans below:
Hopefully, Kai Jones can use whatever he has learnt from therapy to make a mark in the league this time around. After all, one has to back up such claims with at least a decent streak of performance for some time.
