There is no doubt that Karl Malone was one of the best-ever NBA players to have embraced the fans with his presence. Being a dominant offensive force in the league, this Utah Jazz legend could not help but keep himself out of controversies even during his peak years. One of the biggest of them was impregnating a 13-year-old. 

Karl Malone impregnated a 13-year-old girl when he was a 20-year-old student in college at Louisiana Tech. The 13-year-old Gloria Bell gave birth to Demetress Bell. The kid would later play for the Buffalo Bills. However, Malone did not accept his paternity and refused to pay $125 in child support.

Many others have filed paternity lawsuits against Malone. In the case of Demetress Bell, Malone attempted to reconcile during Bell’s high school days. Malone admitted to Bell that he was too late. The duo repaired their relationship in 2014 and began communicating regularly by 2018.

Demetress Bell was born in Summerfield, Louisiana. He did not initially have a relationship with Malone. As such, Demetress carved his own path in high school and college to make his way to the NFL.

Bell started playing in a defensive position during his college days. An injury to the offensive line led the coach of Northwestern State to move him into the offensive line. After entering college in 2005 and graduating in 2008, Bell announced his decision to enter the NFL draft.

The Buffalo Bills drafted him in the seventh round. He became the starter in the 2009-10 season. However, soon suffered a season-ending knee injury. Due to the injury, his career never really reached the Pro Bowl level, and he soon found himself on other rosters. Bell retired in 2013 after not making the active roster.

Over the years, Malone and Bell have reconciled and have gone on hunting trips together. However, the public opinion on Malone became too negative. This remains the biggest controversy Utah Jazz’s most celebrated player was ever involved in. However, this incident shows that even one of the most special NBA talents can have negative life-altering moments.
