Kawhi Leonard who suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee, due to that he was sidelined for the majority of the Clippers’ Western Conference First Round series against the Phoenix Suns. This is not Leonard’s first time when it comes to knee injuries as he faced a similar setbacks in his career, which forced him to miss most of the playoffs.
Despite this, Clippers’ President Lawrence Frank has come forward to assure fans that there is no additional structural damage to Leonard’s knee, including the ACL. The team anticipates that Leonard will be fully fit for the beginning of the next NBA season.
Leonard’s ACL injury kept him out of action for the entire 2021-22 season, and his playing time was restricted to a mere 52 games in the current season due to the team’s careful approach to his workload.
Criticism has been mounting due to Leonard’s repeated knee injuries, with one well known individual even calling for his retirement. Nonetheless, the Clippers are unworried about the long-term prognosis of his injury and seem committed to retaining him for next season.
The Impact of Kawhi Leonard’s Injury on the Clippers’ Playoff Performance
When Leonard was on the floor, the Clippers were able to win the first game of the series, but his absence in the final three games caused the team to lose all three and were eliminated from the playoffs. Paul George’s knee injury worsened their problems, preventing them from using two of their best players during an essential stage of the season.
Since Leonard and George joined the team in 2019–20, the Clippers have experienced this problem again and time again. Due to ongoing injuries, neither player has frequently played with the other during crucial games. The team has not achieved its championship goals as a result.
It is unlikely that the Clippers will deal with either of their two stars anytime soon. George is an eight-time All-Star, while Kawhi Leonard is a two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP. However, the Clippers’ front staff is probably going to make some adjustments this offseason in order to find the right players to win a championship.
