“You want to get back out there rather than sit and watch,” Kawhi Leonard slams Tyronn Lue for his horrendous game plan against Denver Nuggets
Kawhi Leonard took a shot at his head coach Tyronn Lue and called him out for sitting the starters in the second half against the Denver Nuggets.
Tyronn Lue and Kawhi Leonard
It appears as if the Los Angles Clippers are in deep trouble as there appears to be some bad energy in the locker room. Sunday’s loss against the Atlanta Hawks marked their 6th consecutive loss in the season. Despite being loaded with star players like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers are degrading as the season progresses. Although most of their failure to find footing comes from the star players’ unavailability, Leonard thinks it’s much deeper than that.
When Clippers played the Denver Nuggets on Friday, Tyronn Lue did something in the game which was rather surprising and frustrating for Leonard. Lue sat Leonard the entire second half of the game when the Clippers were trailing Denver by 66-32 at halftime. It was not just Leonard, but the entire starting lineup was made to sit out in the second half.
After the Clippers lost to the Nuggets 122-91 at the end of the regulation, Leonard called out Lue for his game plan. The 2 x Finals NBA MVP made it clear that he did not like the idea of sitting out for the entire second half. “I mean, obviously nobody wants to lose by that amount of points,” Leonard said. He also said rather than sitting in the game he should have been on the floor cutting the deficit. “You want to get it back, pretty much. You want to get back out there on the floor and do what you can to either get a win or even the same night, rather than sit and watch. Just coming from me,” Kawhi added.
Kawhi Leonard doesn’t agree with Tyronn Lue’s hero basketball game plan
The All-Star player didn’t stop there he went deeper and kept taking shots at Lue’s plan. He said that rather than jumping to the next game they need to figure it out themselves. “I feel like these are the times where we need to be in there and dig ourselves out those holes and learn what we’re doing, instead of flipping the page and going to the next game,” Leonard said. “But yeah, that’s just from my perspective.”
When Klaw was asked about how the Clippers can improve their game and make more efficient plays on the floor, he said the team needs to play faster. “Playing harder, playing faster, playing smarter,” Leonard said. Perhaps, he is also frustrated with the hero ball game from his teammates. “Move the basketball. It’s a lot of hero basketball going on. That’s it,” Kawhi added. Kawhi doesn’t speak a lot and keeps his opinion to himself. But he is a champion and losing is not in his gene, which might have forced him to speak his mind.
