In a recent conversation with NBA insider Scoop B, John Wall praised Kawhi Leonard‘s skill set. He praised his exceptional midrange game and defensive prowess, stating, “The midrange is crazy. That s**t is amazing! Defensively, how he is just to see him (and) how he gets locked in, it’s like, ‘I want to be great.”

Wall drew comparisons between Leonard and the legendary Michael Jordan, highlighting each one’s unique playing style. Jordan was known for his explosive athleticism, and Leonard stands out for his methodical and efficient approach to the game, per Wall.

He said, “Having a guy like that, we know that we can go to at any moment of time when times get hard is like, OK, you really can’t stop him. He can only stop himself. And that’s how you look at Mike. But Mike was more explosive. Kawhi is more methodical with more of a simple basic game, and he gets to his spots.”

When examining their NBA regular-season stats, it is evident that Jordan’s numbers outshine Leonard’s in various categories. Jordan averaged an impressive 30.1 points per game throughout his career, whereas Leonard’s average stands at 19.6 points. Additionally, Jordan boasted higher numbers in rebounds and assists per game.

The Chicago Bulls‘ great’s steals and blocks per game were also higher than Leonard’s. This is something that might be surprising to people, as MJ is mainly regarded as a more offensive player. Kawhi, on the other hand, is seen as a defensive powerhouse and one would expect that he would outshine Jordan, but that is not the case.

Examining their best seasons, Jordan’s peak saw him average an astounding 37.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 3.2 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. In contrast, Leonard’s best season had him averaging 27.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. Their NBA playoff stats also show similar stories as Jordan surpasses Kawhi in all categories.

While Leonard’s stats may not match Jordan’s on a one-to-one basis, it is crucial to recognize the context of his career. Kawhi Leonard’s numbers, particularly his points per game, have steadily increased as he established himself as a superstar in the league. Moreover, Leonard’s efficiency is commendable, as he boasts an impressive field goal percentage of .495. His prowess as a defender is evident in his steals and blocks averages, where he has consistently been a disruptive force.

As Kawhi is all set to play his 12th NBA season, though not sure as of now from which team, he will look to make the impact he has been continually making.
