Dillion Brooks

Dillion Brooks and Draymond Green have developed a rivalry since meeting in the playoffs last year and Brooks did not miss an opportunity to taunt Draymond after the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. “I told him to keep doing his podcast and keep blogging. It’s cute, it’s fun for him,” said Brooks in his on-court interview after the game. Green got into a scuffle with Brooks in the closing moments of the first half while the Grizzlies were up by 17 points.

All of this started when Dillion Brooks said he does not like the Warriors and Draymond Green and Green proceeded to call him an idiot on his podcast for that. “Give the mic to Draymond. Tell him to keep talking about me so I can play better,” said Brooks while finishing up his interview. The Warriors lost their 26th road game of the season to a Grizzlies team without Ja Morant.

Amid all this trash talk none of them had a good game on Thursday night. Draymond had 5 turnovers on the night to go with 3 fouls, while Brooks shot a dismal 1/7 from three. Draymond and Brooks had all the time to slander each other and entertain the fans while their teams just sit there and watch them go at it. Green and Dillion are at the center of a new NBA rivalry brewing between the Grizzlies and the Warriors. Whether Draymond likes to admit it or not, this is a rivalry in the West.

The Warriors currently have the 5th best home record in the entire league while simultaneously having the 3rd worst road record. They are yet to win a road game in 2023 and are 7-26 on the road this season. Even though Stephen Curry had been injured for a while, they have been unable to win irrespective of his presence, as nothing seems to click outside the Chase Center.

The Warriors are just one game above a .500 record and possess the 6th seed in the Western Conference. The 6th seed might sound nice with a playoff spot being guaranteed but they are also just 2 games ahead of the 11 seed. The Western Conference is incredibly tight this season and Golden State will have to fix its road record if they want to keep their playoff spot.

Draymond Green and Dillion Brooks could very well meet in the first round if the Warriors go a seed down or Memphis goes a seed up. As it stands if both these teams win their first round they will be set for a conference semi-finals rematch from 2022 which will be very interesting as the Grizzlies will be out for revenge. Memphis was without Ja for most of the series last time out and would hope his off-court issues get solved before the playoffs. Even if the fans do not get a Ja or Stephen Curry show, a Draymond and Dillion Brooks battle is guaranteed.
