After taking home the NBA In-Season Tournament title, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have slowed down. Some analysts attribute the team’s problems to coach Darvin Ham. Kendrick Perkins, who is an ESPN analyst, and LeBron’s former Cavaliers teammate. The Lakers are tenth in the Western Conference with a 17-17 record. The Lakers’ poor play over their previous 11 games—eight of which have come after winning the NBA In-Season Tournament—has many wondering what Ham’s future holds.

Regardless of having LeBron James as their starting point guard, they faced the Minnesota Timberwolves and New Orleans Pelicans back-to-back at the end of 2023. The Lakers finished last season in the Western Conference Finals. So far this season, after 34 games, they have not lived up to expectations.

Perkins holds Ham accountable for his coaching choices, which resulted in the team’s lackluster results.

Kendrick Perkins said via ESPN,

I will not let Darvin Ham off the hook. He gotta elevate his game as well, with his rotations, with his set-calling, with everything across the board. The way he staggers LeBron and Anthony Davis minutes. All across the broad, Darvin Ham has to elevate his game.

There’s more pressure on Darvin Ham with each game the Lakers play. LeBron in many videos appeared irritated during play calls, either with his teammates or his coach. If there is one thing the Lakers can ultimately change about their team, it is the coach. For the Lakers, firing Ham would be a very risky move, but if their performance continues to deteriorate, they might not have an option.

LeBron James’ illness update on tomorrow’s game against the Miami Heat

On Wednesday, LeBron James’ former team, the Miami Heat, will play the Los Angeles Lakers. However, King James might decide not to play in the 2020 NBA Finals rematch. LeBron has missed a few games due to an illness, which was discovered before the Lakers’ December 30 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Due to the same injury, they listed LeBron as doubtful for the last two games, but he still participated.

The NBA star from the Lakers is still getting better from a sickness he contracted last week. It would be a major setback for the Lakers if LeBron is not ready for tomorrow’s game. All season long, he has been having at a top level. Averaging 25.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, LeBron is in the lead. To defeat the defending Eastern Conference Champions, the Lakers will require every bit from their 39-year-old superstar.

LeBron’s availability in the final stretch is even more crucial because the Lakers are about to embark on a lengthy home stand. December was not a great month for the Lakers. Nonetheless, the Lakers’ home court, the Crypto.com arena, will host ten of their next fifteen games. They have a chance to turn things around and secure a better seed in the Western Conference during this stretch.
