“He’s going to wag his tail and give ’em a kiss” Kendrick Perkins gives an honest analysis of Ben Simmons’ timid Nets debut

Ben Simmons and Kendrick Perkins

Ben Simmons has been a huge factor taken into consideration for the Brooklyn Nets’ planned resurgence. The Nets obviously fell short of their goal last season specifically due to their shortage of players and even defensive depth. But it is only a matter of time that will help chemistry build between every player on that roster.

Now that the Australian baller made his official debut with his new team, Kendrick Perkins believes that the young All-Star does not possess the drive that other NBA greats or No.1 overall picks would usually have. Simmons spent most of last season complaining about his depreciating mental health and it affected his interest to play basketball.

ESPN uploaded a video on YouTube of Kendrick Perkins being blatantly honest about the point guard. “Here’s the thing, he just don’t have the mentality. He’s not that Pitbull, he’s not that Rottweiler, he’s not that German Shepherd that you want to bark and growl to protect your house. He’s actually that family dog… when a strange ring(s) the doorbell, he’s going to wag his tail and give ’em a kiss.”

Perk’s claims against Ben are not the first of their kind but several experts have pointed out the lack of interest the player has shown over the last year or so. Some have even compared it to their generation when mental health used to be seen as a weakness that opponents would take advantage of.

The Brooklyn Nets wished to use their debuting point guard on both sides of the floor. Ben Simmons has also been an offensive backup on the Philadelphia 76ers, so this would not be any different from his previous role. Yet he still struggled miserably recording only 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists during their opener against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Simmons even had zero contribution defensively which was the opposite of what the Nets require from him. As usual, he never attempted a three-point field goal keeping his record of 5 total shots from beyond the arc intact. It was almost as if he stayed away from all thing offense against the Pelicans, leading the Nets into a 22-point deficit.
