Kendrick Perkins rips JJ Redick in brutal rant over Nikola Jokic-Joel Embiid MVP race

Kendrick Perkins took to Twitter to respond to JJ Redick’s comments on the MVP race. Kendrick Perkins called out JJ for making these comments on his off day and not giving him an opportunity to retort in person. “Jokic is one of the most skilled centers to ever play the game… But don’t act like you wasn’t in those locker rooms where players are 1 point or 2 rebounds and assist away from a triple double“, said Kendrick Perkins in regards to Nikola Jokic‘s triple doubles and why he feels he the Joker is stat padding. “I just see a different impact, I ain’t wrong for that“, said Perkins in defense of Joel Embiid being MVP.

JJ Redick started all of this on First Take while responding to Kendrick Perkins calling Jokic a stat-padder. “Nikola Jokic does not care about stats or a triple doubles… I hate to tell everybody but he does not care about winning MVP,” said JJ Redick. Redick went on to point out that the Nuggets are unbeaten whenever Jokic has got a triple-double this season to prove his point. “I know Perk is on this ‘Joel Embiid is the MVP’ rant… But let’s not make up a narrative about a player that is so unbased in reality,” said JJ Redick.

Kendrick Perkins and JJ Redick have a long history of arguments on First Take as Kendrick Perkins is a traditional old-head and Redick is a believer in the new generation. “Boy I’m coming right at you, carry on,” said Perkins to end his video rant in typical fashion. Perkins and Redick will meet each other on First Take soon and hopefully give the fans the final outcome of their MVP debate.

Jokic and Embiid are locked in a historic MVP battle which has defined the 2020s. Jokic has won two straight MVPs over Embiid in 2021 and 2022. Embiid lead the league in scoring last season as well and missed out on the MVP. Voter fatigue plays a huge role in these awards and might give Embiid a chance to finally take the award home this season.

Nikola Jokic is averaging a triple-double for the first time in his career and at extraordinary efficiency. Embiid just seems to be unlucky when it comes to the MVP race as Jokic elevates his game every year. After dominating all the advanced stats last year, Jokic has turned to fill up the stat sheet while doing so this season. The Joker is averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists this season and has not shot below 50% from the field since October. The Nuggets are the #1 seed to add to his prowess.

Joel Embiid is averaging a staggering 33 points and 11 rebounds this season while dominating defensively on nights he lacks in shooting. Embiid has had a lot of stick for not performing in the playoffs which is why the narrative has always tipped in favor of Jokic. Jokic has not had his best players in the last two seasons and with them, he has taken the Nuggets all the way to the #1 seed. Regardless of who wins MVP, the duel between these two is legendary and will be remembered forever and so will the debates between Kendrick Perkins and JJ.
