“He absolutely deserved to be thrown out of the game” Kendrick Perkins says Draymond Green’s slap and smack on the floor made Brandon Clarke completely helpless
Draymond Green-Golden State Warriors
Draymond Green getting ejected has ruffled a lot of feathers among the NBA community, with some blaming the match officials while others stating the ejection was deserved. The latest to opinionate on the same was former player Kendrick Perkins, who is known to always have a bold and unique take.
Kendrick Perkins agrees with the referees’ call to eject Draymond Green in the Warriors’ Game 1 win over the Grizzlies. Kendrick Perkins was on the ESPN show post-game and his reply to being asked if Draymond Green deserved an ejection was bold:
“You know what as an enforcer in the league a role that I played, absolutely, he deserved to get thrown out . Look we you have to set the law at some, some type of standard and lay down some type of rules. Listen the man once slapped him across his face okay and then pulled this jersey down which Brandon Clark was really kind of helpless at that point,” said Kendrick Perkins.
Draymond Green to blame for manhandling Brandon Clarke
Draymond Green took the ejection with much enthusiasm, or that is what he portrayed. Got thrown out of the game, he waved at all the fans, he hugged all his teammates, he didn’t talk to the media, he went back, to the hotel and he recorded a podcast, that that was the day that Draymond Green had. Kendrick believes that decisions should not be affected by the names at the back of the jerseys.
“Look, the league got to protect all players because we know if this was the other way around and say, Brandon Clark would have did a play like this on Steph Curry you know, nobody would have been complaining or if he would have did it on Klay Thompson. Look we can’t look at the name on the back of the jersey, all players have to be protected and I thought at that moment that was the appropriate call that the referees made,” added Kendrick Perkins
The Former NBA Champion further went on to describe that the game should be physical but fouls like this should be a flagrant 2.
“This guy, Brandon Clark, he was defenseless you got to protect all players it doesn’t matter what the name of the back of the jersey or how physical we want the game to be this is not wrestling this is not football we talking about the game of basketball yes you wanted to be a little physical but at the end of the day you still wanted to protect the players.”
