“Lakers are trash” Kendrick Perkins takes a U-Turn on Anthony Davis after being abysmal in 2022-23 season
Anthony Davis, Kendrick Perkins
Kendrick Perkins prematurely predicted that Los Angeles Lakers player Anthony Davis will win the MVP award this year. However, some people’s hopes have been dimmed by the Lakers’ 123-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the season opener, which raises serious concerns about how well Davis will perform this year.
The Lakers’ 2023 season got off to an early loss over the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Since they didn’t go to the postseason in 2021–2022, many believe the same thing will happen this season. With more shooting assistance, the Lakers might clearly improve, but NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins has had enough. Davis did appear to be outmatched against the Dubs team, which was sufficient for Perkins to disprove his own earlier opinion.
Perkins on the “First Take” said: “I’ll tell you why I’m not picking Anthony Davis as my MVP anymore. It’s not that I don’t have belief in Anthony Davis, it’s the roster he has around him. In order to win the MVP award your team needs to have a winning record.” He then went on to say: “I think Anthony Davis will remind people who they are. But let’s face reality, the Lakers are trash. The Lakers can possibly start the season off 0-6 with the schedule they have.”
Warriors upset Lakers in the season opener
With the ring ceremony and victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tip Off Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors kicked off the season in style. Despite a shaky start, Steph Curry stole the show with 33 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the 123-109 triumph. Klay Thompson scored 18 points in only 20 minutes for the Warriors, while Jordan Poole finished with 12 points and seven assists in the lopsided victory for the reigning champs and Andrew Wiggins also chipped in 20 points.
Although they performed so inconsistently, LeBron James and Anthony Davis scored their usual number of points, and the rest of the Laker lineup offensively underperformed significantly. Russell Westbrook scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Warriors in range in the second half. James lead the Lakers with 31 points and 14 rebounds, while Davis contributed 27 points. The Warriors eventually strolled to an easy victory despite the Lakers’ best efforts to attempt a comeback.
Kendrick Perkins and his former MVP claim of Anthony Davis
The Lakers were unnoticed after assembling a veteran-filled squad for the previous season, but injury troubles and defensive issues contributed to a disastrous year. But many, including Kendrick Perkins, thought that the Lakers might recover if Anthony Davis remained healthy. Late in September, Perkins said the following on “NBA Today”: “Anthony Davis is going to remind the world of who the hell he is because I believe Anthony Davis is going to show why his name should be mentioned in the conversation Giannis Antetokounmpo.”
One of the NBA’s most gifted players is without a doubt Anthony Davis and he was added to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. He has also been named to four NBA All-Star teams, four All-Defensive teams, and eight All-Star teams. The only thing Davis’ resume is missing is an MVP, despite the fact that he has four times finished in the top 10 of the MVP vote, coming in as high as third. But as long as he stays healthy, Davis undoubtedly have the potential to accomplish this.
