Kendrick Perkins praises Stephen Curry's legacy

The Warriors have rallied behind their King in the West, Stephen Curry, and laid waste to Mavericks’ hopes of conquering the Western Conference. Luka Doncic was spectacular but still not enough for the Golden State Warriors, as the defense of Dallas collapsed under the unstoppable force of the Warriors. The Baby Faced Assassin has charmed his opponents as Golden State Warriors won the Western Conference Title and made it into the NBA finals for the 6th time with a similar core in the last eight seasons. Stephen Curry leading from the front won the inaugural WC Finals MVP award named after great Magic Johnson.

Stephen Curry has been godlike throughout the postseason he even showcased his heroics and greatness coming off the bench and doing the most damage, making it to his 6th NBA Final. Kendrick Perkins has been in awe of the ‘3-point God’ and says his staggering numbers and another NBA Title could take him above the legendary, Magic Johnson himself, in the NBA’s ‘Mount Rushmore’, up there with NBA’s elite.

Dallas Mavericks did win game 4 at home, extending the conference finals series for 1 game at least. But the Warriors didn’t waste an opportunity to close the series in front of their home fans as Klay Thompson fired on all cylinders and Stephen Curry was phenomenal in the Conference Finals. The Golden State Warriors are heading back to the NBA Finals for the sixth time in eight seasons. They punched their ticket on Thursday night with a comfortable 120-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals to win the series, 4-1.

“Stephen Curry would imprint his name on NBA Mount Rushmore” – Kendrick Perkins on Steph’s legacy

Stephen Curry’s illustrious NBA career has had it all, from MVP to Championships and 3-Point contests too. Kendrick Perkins believes its time we put some respect to his name, and place it where it belongs, with the All Time Greats. Curry was acknowledged with the inaugural Magic Johnson Western Conference finals MVP award, which prompted a discussion on the “NBA Today” set. Malika Andrews asked if Steph could now be compared to Magic despite winning an award with his name, to which Perkins replied-

“Yeah, why not? Think about it. In 20 years, they’re gonna have a Steph Curry award, we could bet the house on that. There’s gonna be a Steph Curry award. Here’s the thing when I look at finals MVP. It’s like playing with Steph Curry is plug and replace. Championships and finals MVPs can enhance your legacy, I get that. But, it shouldn’t take away from it. This is not an individual sport like boxing, or tennis, or golf, where you have to win the championship to define your legacy in the team sport. Sometimes, you could be doing what you need to do and others just don’t have it.” Kendrick justified his statements.

Kendrick Perkins is convinced about Stephen Curry’s scoring and playmaking prowess, he is ready to crown him as the Greatest Point Guard to grace the game, above the LA Lakers stalwart Magic Johnson. Perkins on ESPN’s “Get Up” discussed how Steph has evolved the game in a manner which no one thought of.

When it comes down to Steph Curry, if he goes on to win another championship along with the Finals MVP, one it’s going to put him in the top 10 conversation of greatest player of all time. Two, it’s going to move him as the number one point going to ever play the game and think about this. I want you to think about this. Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Wild Chamberlain are the only players in NBA history to win multiple championships, multiple scoring titles, and multiple MVPs.”

“Steph Curry would imprint and be now on NBA Mount Rushmore. When you think about a generational talent that has changed the game, forever, at the point guard position. He made shots that will put you on the bench cool again and think about this: his three championships. Who have they won against? LeBron James and Steph Curry has been a disruptor, breaking up happy homes.

You think about the 3-1 lead the Oklahoma City Thunder team blew against them and all of a sudden he broke up Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and KD went and joined him to have to win a championship. So look with Steph Curry, the green eyed assassin. If he goes on to win a fourth NBA title with a Finals MVP, forget the top 10 list, forget the greatest point guard of all time, he’s going to be on the NBA Mount Rushmore. Period.

If Curry and the Warriors were to win another title in 2022 and he were to win Finals MVP, he would definitely be at the pinnacle of the sport. This has all been an example of greatness for the Golden State legend, however , getting into Top 4 of All Time might be debatable, as there are still certain legendary players that have better stats than Steph.

Nothing will alter Curry’s legacy, as one of the best payers to grace the game. Stephen Curry won 3 NBA Championships but was never finals MVP. A deserving star would be ecstatic with the possibility of winning that individual honor and 4th title. We might witness history in the coming days, as the Greatest Shooter of All-Time steps on the biggest stage of the NBA to leave his eternal mark.
