Chris Paul and Devin Booker fail to deliver in Game 7 vs Mavs
The Phoenix Suns had a disappointing start to the crucial game and continued to have that treend the entire game. After having lost just 10 games on their home court (nine in the regular season and one in the postseason) all season long, the Suns put up a most wersh effort on Sunday. The number 1 seeded team of the Western Conference, scored just 27 points in the first half. They were outscored by 30 at half-time. Mavericks ripped the Suns in the 2nd quarter wit 30-10 performance.
Suns’ superstars, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul were a combined for a dismal 1-for-15 from the field and had only 6 points together at half-time. Booker, Ayton and Paul finished the blowout defeat with 26 points between the three of them.
On the other hand, Luka Doncic himself dropped 27 points for the Mavs’ at the halfway mark and had 35 points against his name at the end of the game. He was nearly at a double-double in the 1st quarter itself. His individual score at the half-way mark was as much as the Phoenix Suns had in total. The three-time All-Star also had 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals to add to his incredible performance and numbers. He even shot 63.2% from the floor and 6-of-11 (54.5%) from 3-point line to grab Dallas’ ticket to their first Conference Finals appearance since 2011.
Former NBA champion and sports analyst Kendrick Perkins was understandably disappointed with the Phoenix Suns’ effort in a crunch game like this. He took to Twitter to express his disappointment whilst also applauding Doncic :
“That damn LUKA!!! I’ll address CP3, Devin Booker and the Suns by like the numbers on a house tomorrow. They should be ASHAMED of themselves! Carry the hell on… #NBAToday”
The Suns looked in control of the series after taking a 2-0 lead over the first two games. The odds were all in favour of Phoenix making it to their second straight Conference Finals.
