Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has been playing at an elite level since coming into the league in 2007. His drive to be one of the best to ever play the game has been apparent since day one. Playing in his 16th season, Durant just reconfirmed his intentions.
Speaking after Durant’s Phoenix Suns won over the Sacramento Kings, Durant was asked at the post-game press conference as to what fuels his drive to play at this elite level every day. To this, he had a simple response,
My calling, my purpose of being a human being is to be the greatest basketball player I can be. That is the reason why I am alive at this point.
Durant said this in response to a follow-up question about the changes he has made to his defensive approach this season.
Kevin Durant has been with the Suns after a trade from the Brooklyn Nets last year. Since then, he has been their primary scorer. Even illustrious teammate Devin Booker made it clear that Durant was the main scorer. Durant has thrived in that role since the initial parts of this season when both Booker and Bradley Beal were out injured.
Since both of his superstar compatriots have returned to full health, Durant has taken up more defensive assignments to guard opposing big men. This change in his game led to the questions. According to Durant, he can use his size and length to at least slow down the best big men on opposing teams.
The career of possibly one of the best to ever play the game
Since Kevin Durant entered the league in 2007, he has always been one of the best scorers around. The four-time scoring champion has career averages of 27.3 points, 7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. But it is his clutch-time offense that led to the two NBA Finals MVPs and the two championships.
Now in his 16th season, Durant wants to win at least one more championship. With the Phoenix Suns roster loaded with superstars, Durant wants to help in other aspects of the game as well. He can, at the very least, count on his superstar teammates to support with the scoring as well.
Durant will probably want to at least match LeBron James in terms of championship, and wants to go down as one of the best to play in the NBA.
