Kevin Durant has been a regular name in the headlines since he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets as he wants to part ways with the organization. But now the story is pretty heated and spiced up as there are reports claiming him to retire if he’s not traded away by the team. After a month of waiting for a trade, Kevin Durant shocked the NBA world by giving an ultimatum to the organization in a meeting with owner Joe Tsai in London of either riding with him or the Head Coach Steve Nash and General Manager Sean Marks. The Nets haven’t made any decision publically yet but are favoring the coaching staff and management of the team as they are testing KD in the market but so far haven’t been able to get any satisfying deal. But his future in the league still remains very uncertain and unpredictable.

With the Nets respecting his request and trying to find deals for him to be shipped across. There are also many names around and in the league who believe the Nets shouldn’t part ways with him and run it once again. So Kevin Durant getting traded away with ease is surely not an option. As he also got himself an extension in 2021 worth $198 million for four years and is under a contract with the team through the 2025-26 season. So it’s fair to say that Kevin Durant’s future is in the hands of the organization and they may keep him as right now they have a championship roster and his departure can ruin it all. Because the market won’t do any justice to a trade related to him as everyone knows the bridge between the megastar and the franchise is burnt.

This has led to another headline as a source has claimed Kevin Durant to retire if not traded from the Nets. In the recent report of NBA Insider Marc Stein, he wrote how an NBA executive believes KD can retire if he had to suit up for the Nets again as he mentioned: “During summer league in Las Vegas, one of the most well-connected team executives I speak to regularly insisted to me that, based on what he was hearing, Kevin Durant was more apt to retire than play again for the Brooklyn Nets. This was in early July.”

The conversation happened in early July but it was revealed recently when the topic was hot and spiced up on the discussion table. As KD preferring to retire can be believed by many fans after the recent events. But Kevin Durant didn’t let it slide and was quick to shut down all such rumors and reports started by unknown and unnamed sources. As in a tweet of his via his personal Twitter handle he wrote: “I know most people will believe unnamed sources over me but if it’s anyone out there that’ll listen, I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon. Sh*t is comical at this point.”

Kevin Durant loves to play basketball and that’s life for him. So considering him to even think about retiring just because of not having strong chemistry with the team is senseless. Things can still work out between the two parties and they can come on the same page to have everyone around satisfied and happy. As of now, KD is with the Nets and under a contract, and with the franchise having higher grounds in the situation nothing can be said or claimed about the team he’ll suit up for next season but he’s surely not retiring.
