Stephen Curry has lit up the game again tonight. Going up against his former teammate Kevin Durant and the superstar-laden Phoenix Suns was not going to be an easy task. But his heroics in the final seconds of the game brought out the highest praise from his former running partner. Curry’s iconic game-winning shot made Durant call him one of the best to do it.
Stephen Curry and his clutch shooting always make him the shooter of choice in any game-winning situation. And the Golden State Warriors did just that when designing the play for Curry’s shot. So with 3 seconds to go in regulation, Curry receives the inbound pass, turns around 180 degrees, and scores from 33 feet to help the Warriors lead the game with 0.7 seconds remaining. So when journalist Duane Rankin asked Durant what he felt about the game-winner, Durant said:
All-time greatest ever....at his position, top 5 player of all time.Kevin Durant said
Durant did not have any doubt in christening his former teammate as he has seen Curry do this countless times throughout his career.
Stephen Curry has a history of making clutch game-winning shots. But at age 35 and in his 15th season shooting like this is not normal. Curry has been solely responsible for getting the Warriors to win in his career. Those are the reasons, why Durant did not hesitate while calling Curry as one of the Top-5 players of all time.
Durant also saw firsthand the fluidity of Curry to set up space to get his shot off. He had Bradley Beal and Devin Booker reeling to guard him. But his 180-degree turn made space for him to pull up. Durant was a few feet away from Curry watching the entire play develop in front of his eyes.
Stephen Curry leads Warriors to win over Kevin Durant and the Suns
The Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns both entered the game with a 5-2 record in their last 7 games. However, the Warriors are recovering from three straight losing months in their quest for another championship run. And they looked like the more hungry team.
The game went back and forth between the two teams. Both jostling for a lead but unable to sustain it for long before the other rallied back. Hence the game was decided by Curry’s winning shot in the final seconds. The Warriors won the game 113-112 on the back of good performances from most of their players.
But it was that clutch game-winner that decided the game. And Kevin Durant appreciates Stephen Curry for showing why he is one of the best ever to play the game.
