As tensions continue to heat up between James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers, it has sparked conversations among the league about Joel Embiid‘s situation. People are wondering if he is considering leaving the 76ers to join another team to increase his chances of winning a championship.

The conversation gained momentum after Joel Embiid was seen enjoying an NFL game between the Washington Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals with Kevin Durant. This sparked speculations about Embiid potentially joining the Suns or Durant taking his talents to Philly and replacing Harden, who is currently causing trouble for the Sixers.

While fans may speculate about these two players teaming up in the league, they might be disappointed to learn that both players had specific reasons for attending the game. Embiid was there because Philly’s former team managing partner, Joe Harris, is the new part-owner of the Commanders. Meanwhile, Durant has been a long-time Commanders fan, having grown up in Maryland just outside Washington D.C.

Amongst all the drama going on between the Philadelphia 76ers and James Harden, it is not a long shot to predict that Embiid might be unhappy with his situation in Philly as he has already dealt with one such situation when Ben Simmons refused to play for the 76ers and does not want to deal with another similar situation.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the situation is the complete opposite of what the majority of the league thought it would be. Embiid is okay with sticking to Philly as they deal with the Harden situation. Shelburne also reports that Philly guard Tyrese Maxey feels the same way about his situation on the team.

Embiid is under contract with the 76ers through the 2026-27 season, with his huge four-year $216 million contract set to kick in next season. We have seen players with multiple years on their contracts demand a trade if they don’t see themselves winning a championship on the roster, like Kevin Durant when he asked for a trade away from Brooklyn to Phoenix with multiple years left on his contract. It will be interesting to see how the situation in Philly turns out to be.
