Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns notched up their seventh win in a row, and Kevin Durant put up yet another efficient performance. KD has now achieved a coveted 50/40/90 season-three-point range and 90% from the line. However, KD has only played 47 games this season but still qualifies for the achievement but not an NBA award and took to Twitter to say – “Don’t count. Didn’t play 65 games.”
According to the new NBA collective bargaining agreement, from the 2023/24 season, every player has to play at least 65 games to qualify for any award in the NBA. KD won an MVP in 2014 and played 81 games that season but did not average such good shooting splits. KD has achieved a 50/40/90 season only one other time in his career, in 2012/13 while LeBron James won the MVP that year.
Durant is averaging 29.1 points per game this year and will become only the third player to ever achieve a 50/40/90 season twice after Larry Bird and Steve Nash. However, Stephen Curry remains the only player to achieve a 50/40/90 season, averaging 30 points per game. Durant would have been an MVP candidate this season if he had played the current league requisite 58 games.

After his performance last night, KD joined the 50/40/90 club, shooting 60% from three-point range. The game was in the balance for the most part, as the Suns and Nuggets each had leads of over 5 points at one point in the game. However, Kevin Durant scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to win the game for Phoenix, with Chris Paul scoring ten fourth-quarter points of his own.
Durant is averaging 29.1 points per game this season, and with just two games left, it is unlikely he will get 30 points per game. Statistically, KD would need 104 points in his next two games to achieve the feat. An improbable scenario, but if any scorer could do it, Kevin Durant could. KD has only nine 50-point games in his career, but since the Suns have secured their seeding, they could look to feed KD for buckets all game.
The Phoenix Suns will face any Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, or Los Angeles Clippers in the first round. All three of these teams have players that KD has faced in the playoffs prior. KD met Step in 2016, LeBron while he was at OKC, Golden State, and Kawhi Leonard in the 2019 NBA Finals. KD will be under pressure in the playoffs but will look to deliver with his new team.
