After Kevin Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns last season, the Suns became the odds-on favorite to win the championship. However, they ultimately lost to the eventual champions, the Denver Nuggets, in a six-game series during the Western Conference Semifinals.
During this offseason, they bolstered their lineup by acquiring Bradley Beal, adding another scoring threat for opposing teams to contend with. With Beal’s arrival, fans now have higher expectations than ever for both the Suns and Durant. The team has gone all-in on this roster, and if they fail to secure a championship, it will be seen as a squandering of all their future assets. Durant is fully aware of these expectations and discussed them during an interview.
Speaking to Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson of NBA Today on SiriusXM this week, Durant emphasized that he understands the team’s mandate is to win a championship, or they will be labeled as underachievers. While he believes in the importance of personal growth alongside his teammates, winning the championship remains the primary objective.
“It goes without saying, I always feel like we should be winning every game, and championship is always the goal,” said Durant. “I think that’s the most important thing. Obviously, if we don’t win a title, we’ll get pounced on, like you said. “

Have the Phoenix Suns built a contender around Kevin Durant and Devin Booker?
The Phoenix Suns were very active during the offseason; they went out and traded for Bradley Beal, forming their formidable Big Three of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Beal. The questions after the trade were about the depth of the team, and they handled it very efficiently while not giving up many assets.

Suns signed a lot of good role players like Eric Gordon and Yuta Watanabe on vet minimum contracts while also making smart decisions like taking part in the Damian Lillard trade, where they gave up former No.1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton for players like Jusuf Nurkic and Grayson Allen and other assets. They have built a great team around their superstars by surrounding them with good talent which can definitely result in a championship.
