Some Brooklyn Nets fans are spreading false rumors on Twitter about Kevin Durant and his former teammate Bruce Brown. Durant, who played with Brown for two seasons in Brooklyn, shut down a tweet that claimed he didn’t want Brown to stay with the Nets last year.

Brown left the Nets in the offseason and joined the Denver Nuggets, who are one win away from their first NBA championship. He had a stellar performance in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, scoring 21 points off the bench.

Eddie Gonzalez of FanDuel TV praised Brown’s performance, tweeting that “This is Bruce Brown’s moment on the championship DVD and it’s gonna take like 4 minutes of the 90.” One fan, Jeri Tsai, replied with a jab at Durant, saying that Brown was “That same player KD didn’t want back on the Nets.

Gonzalez defended Durant, calling the narrative “delusional as hell.” But he was not alone in shutting it down. Durant, also weighed in, saying that “At some point, Nets Twitter has to stop making s**t up…I know, I know, I’m soft for this tweet. I’ll delete soon.

Brown’s departure from Brooklyn remains a mystery, but he hinted that a star player might have been involved. He told the Dan LeBatard show that the Nets’ wanted to keep him, but someone else didn’t. He didn’t drop any names, but the speculation naturally points to Durant or Irving, the two alpha dogs of the team. Maybe Durant had nothing to do with it, but it’s not a wild guess either.

Brown has moved on from the Nets and found a new role in Denver. He has also impressed his new teammates, especially Nikola Jokic. The two-time MVP said he was ready to punch Brown when he saw him take a step-back three in Game 4, but he was also proud of him. “When he did a step-back three, I wanted to punch him, but when he made it, I was so happy,” Jokic said.

Brown is one win away from his first championship as the Nuggets host the Heat in Game 5 on Monday. Durant, on the other hand, will have to deal with the rumors and the trolls on the Nets’ Twitter.
