Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant is widely regarded as one of the best scorers in the league for the last two decades. The two-time NBA Finals MVP has been at the top of his game since he entered the league in 2007. He has faced many an elite player during his illustrious 16-year career.
Journalist Chris Henderson got the opportunity to do a short interview with Durant. He asked Durant who he considers to be on his Mount Rushmore of the 2000s. To this Durant replied;
Me, Kobe, T-Mac, uh Bron.
Durant selecting himself on the list should not be a surprise. But what caught fans’ attention was that he omitted his former teammate Stephen Curry.
Curry is regarded as one of the greatest shooters of all time. He has been credited with changing the way the league plays the game. So it was surprising that Durant left Curry out. After all, Durant has had the best seat in the house watching Curry become one of the greatest players of all time.
Durant completed the list with himself, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, and LeBron James on the mount. Durant has played against all of the above greats. He has witnessed elite-level individual performances from either of his three Mount Rushmore mates. But with Curry, Durant has the distinction of both playing alongside him and against him.
Even a non-basketball fan has heard of Stephen Curry’s scoring ability. That is the level of domination the Golden State Warriors superstar has inflicted on the game. Many young players coming through the ranks have often modeled their game after the 2 time MVP. His effortless shooting and catch-and-shoot scoring have become the staple of many rookies.
Basketball fans bemused by Curry’s omission from Durant’s list
Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry joined hands to win back-to-back NBA Championships. Durant had the best seat on the court to see Curry’s exploits. Both as a teammate for three seasons and as an opponent throughout the rest of his career. During that time, Curry has redefined the importance of three-point shooting as well as effortless scoring from anywhere on the court.
Basketball fans were wondering what went through Durant’s head when he omitted Curry and included McGrady. Yes, Tracy McGrady must get plaudits. But he hasn’t had the career or impact Curry has had to date. Fans were quick to react to this list on social media. Check out some of their comments below;
Whatever the fans say, Durant could do some rethinking about his list. Not including one of the best of all time is a crime in fan’s eyes.
